The Black Crusade

Whilst I’ve been gone from the internet, I’ve been playing a lot of Warhammer 40k Conquest, an excellent living card game from Fantasy Flight. Probably the best I’ve played and is the benchmark for all card games in my eyes.

I was going to write a few strategy guides, but that’s been done all over the web, and then Games Workshop pulled the intellectual property licenses from beneath Fantasy Flight’s feet, meaning all FF games in GW universes are ceasing from 28th Feb 2017.

Back up and running!

Over two years I’ve been away, frittering away my life, instead of playing games and erm, frittering away my life.

The gaming mojo is back somewhat, so I’ll be posting here more frequently (i.e. more than once every two years).

More Theros

We moved away from Draft this week because Zanfus complained about it, and everyone (apart from Zanfus, who won) agreed that it was a bit of a disaster. From the pool of cards we each chose 75 cards with which to build a 40 card deck.

Without the draft mechanic in place there was no way to control the concentration of colours, nor change strategy based on the efficacy of the card synergy. What we were faced with was a pile of random cards that (unless you were lucky) did not work terribly well together unless you were prepared to construct a 3-colour deck (and sometimes, not even then).

Mouse Guard

The lives of mice are a daily struggle for survival—the weather, wilderness and animals are uncaring and savage. But mice are a doughty people. Though all the world stands against them, they refuse to give up! They have claimed the Mouse territories as their own: a network of cities, towns and villages where mice thrive and prosper despite all that stands in their way.

A band of selfless heroes makes it all possible. Called the Mouse Guard, these fearless mice blaze trails through the wilderness, escort travelers from city to city, and protect mice cities from predators and the fury of nature.

Fun League – Season 10

Unbelievably the little Blood Bowl league I set up has reached its tenth season. I say little, it’s levelled out at 9 divisions (after peaking at 16) and continually amazes me with the passion and commitment of the people involved. Admittedly it could do with an injection of Americas coaches as the European section is beating the Americas 8-1 in the play-offs, but intense competition has never been in the spirit of the league. Fun and mucking about is the order of the day, which fits in nicely with the game itself.

Flash Point: Fire Rescue

I got to play Flash Point: Fire Rescue at the weekend as one of Russ’ Essen acquisitions and at first I wasn’t too enamoured with the fire fighting theme or the fact it was a cooperative game: my preferred games involve negotiation, deception and/or conflict, but I got stuck in and had a pleasant time.
