Blue Aggro

Theros is such a fast format that you can quite easily incorporate Blue into an aggro deck (my favourite kind), and in the absence of any stand-out counter spells, the weenie flyers blue provides can be very handy.

I didn’t go into the game thinking about taking blue or red, but as the draft began and I examined my cards I had Benthic Giant and Aqueous Form right next to each other!

More Theros

We moved away from Draft this week because Zanfus complained about it, and everyone (apart from Zanfus, who won) agreed that it was a bit of a disaster. From the pool of cards we each chose 75 cards with which to build a 40 card deck.

Without the draft mechanic in place there was no way to control the concentration of colours, nor change strategy based on the efficacy of the card synergy. What we were faced with was a pile of random cards that (unless you were lucky) did not work terribly well together unless you were prepared to construct a 3-colour deck (and sometimes, not even then).

Drafting Theros

Magic is a money-sink right? Not necessarily. 6 quid for 4 sets of every card (commons and uncommons) in the new Theros block from ebay. Sweet.

We drafted the block on Friday, and prior to doing so, I had a think about the cards in this block. Opinion on the net is currently divided on the speed of the block. Having seen that direct-damage and denial spells are at a premium I’d say that the block is pretty quick, so with this in mind I thought about forcing a U/W aggro deck.
